Grief may change us, but no one should have to walk its path alone

National Grief Awareness Week 2025

Every year, during the first week of December, the UK unites in support of bereaved people through National Grief Awareness Week (NGAW). This year (2–8 December 2025), the campaign is being led by The Good Grief Trust under the theme “Growing with Grief”.

At Grief Specialists, we warmly endorse NGAW and the work of The Good Grief Trust, and we want to encourage anyone who is grieving to remember that you don’t have to go through this alone.

Grief touches each of us at some point, and its effects are rarely simple or predictable. However, not everyone knows where to turn when grief arrives. Many feel isolated, unsure whether their feelings are normal, or hesitant to reach out. Sharing stories, offering caring conversation and connecting people to proper support services can make an enormous difference.

NGAW brings attention to these needs by encouraging individuals, families, communities and organisations to recognise grief, normalise conversations about it and help make support more accessible.

We have a directory of grief professionals who can provide immediate grief support. If you are grieving, whether the loss is recent or from many years ago, there are several ways to support yourself. Talking about your feelings, even when it feels difficult, can help.

There is no right way to grieve. Letting someone know you’re finding things hard is an important step; many people want to help but are unsure how to start the conversation.

Seeking professional support can be valuable if the pain feels too heavy to carry alone. Connecting with supportive communities, even online, can offer comfort at any stage of your journey.

At Grief Specialists, we believe in the value of compassionate, professional guidance grounded in empathy, respect and real-life experience. As part of our mission, we stand alongside everyone navigating loss.

Whether grief feels raw and overwhelming or you are carrying it quietly inside, we see you and encourage you to reach out if you feel you need support.

This National Grief Awareness Week, we invite you to explore our free resources and, if it feels right, to connect with us or other trusted services for care that meets you where you are.

Grief may change us, but no one should have to walk its path alone.
